More About Me!

Hey everyone!

I hope you all have had a spectacular week! I know I have :)

A few weeks ago, I was accepted into NYU's pre-college journalism program, and the class starts tomorrow. I'm super excited for it! NYU is my number-one college, ask any of my friends. My obsession and desire to go to that school can't be healthy.

I thought I'd write this post to tell everyone here more about me, why I started, etc.

Honestly, I started this because I was bored. I wanted something I loved to keep me busy...as if I'm not busy enough. This semester is my hardest one yet, and it's all online. Not to mention I'm in a few clubs and the timing of the meetings could not be more inconvenient. But, I'm making it work since I love all of the clubs.

So, I posted on my private story, asking for advice on something journalism-related to keep me busy.

Two of my friends, Taylor and Jessie, swiped up and said "start your own blog." So, shoutout to them for the idea of starting this. :)

Jessie has been one of my best friends since middle school and she's always been there for me, let me rant, helps me figure out everything college-related, and sends me the best tiktoks.

I unfortunately don't have any pictures with Taylor, because we've actually never met in person. After I got into the NYU thing, I found the class list and found her Instagram. I dm'ed her and we instantly became friends. We like the same music, both have blogs (check her out at espressoandhoney.com !!), both want to be journalists, and have a basically identical college list. Like, we're already planning our journalist lives and shopping for our apartment in NYC, Boston, or DC. Wherever we end up. Plus, she's the best person to talk about ANYTHING with. Believe me, if we weren't in a pandemic right now, I would have already been to Sacramento to visit. Only 3,000 miles...

So, after they both said to start a blog, I got to thinking. What could I write about? I didn't have severe enough health issues to write about my chronic illnesses, theatre was shut down indefinitely, and I don't have a Trader Joe's close enough to go often, which would mean infrequent posts.

I've always loved traveling. Over my 17 years, I've been to Canada (I'm half-Canadian), the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the Netherlands (check out my last post for my experience in Amsterdam!), Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and quite a few states. After the pandemic is under safe enough control, myself and my family are all vaccinated, and traveling is back to some sort of normal, I'm on the first plane anywhere on my long list of places to be,

So, that's why I started Abventures. That's really it.

More about me!

I'm 17, live right outside of Baltimore, am currently a junior in high school, and am an aspiring journalist. I've always loved writing, even as my interests changed as I aged. I really have my English teachers throughout school to thank for this, as their advice, knowledge, guidance, and support have inspired me to be a journalist. As of right now, I am hoping to go to NYU Gallatin to get a degree in Individualized Studies. I hope to take journalism, media, liberal arts, humanities, politics, and possibly some sort of geometry class? Geometry is the only math I've ever gotten an A in. I won't lie when I tell you it was a 90 on the dot. It would have been better if proofing a triangle didn't exist. What's the point? Anyways.

Aside from writing, I've been doing musical theatre throughout my entire life and am in my school's drama club, and our chapter of the Intl. Thespian Society! My favorite show we've done, without a doubt, was Newsies my freshman year. Chicago was going to be this spring, but, pandemic. So it obviously didn't happen. :(

I've also been playing piano for 11 years now, and I've been taking lessons every week for the past 11 years. Shoutout to my piano teacher for literally watching me grow up.

I'm also serving as President of my school's Allies Club, which is where students and faculty come together to make our school a safe and comfortable environment for everyone, Vice President (currently Secretary, VP is effective in April!) of a nationwide climate change initiative, Caring for Our Climate (check us out, https://cccaringforourclim.wixsite.com/caringforourclimate !!) , and tutor French weekly through my school.

Anyways, that's enough about me.

I hope you enjoyed reading. Remember you all are loved. Treat people with kindness.

Thanks for reading. See you again soon :)
